Pioneer boys top Chester-Joplin-Inverness 56-52 behind Jones 41 point effort

 

There is just one week remaining in the District 9C regular season before the Big Sandy boys and girls teams head into post season play.

This past weekend the Pioneer boys got a huge performance from junior Bryant Jones who tossed in 41 points in Big Sandy's 56-52 win over Chester-Joplin-Inverness Saturday night.

Big Sandy led 9-8 early and 27-25 by intermission. The Pioneers doubled up the Hawks in the third quarter to extend their advantage to 39-31 with the fourth quarter remaining.

The Hawks gained a little ground down the stretch but it was to little to late as Big sandy secured the 56-52 conference win.

Friday the boys fell to the districts number two seeded Box Elder Bears 80-41. Jones again led the Pioneers in that contest with nine points.

The Big sandy girls dropped a pair of conference clashes over the weekend. Friday top seeded Box Elder picked up a 73-33 win. Junior Jenna Leader paced the team with 12 points.

Saturday it was the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks picking up a 47-29 win over Big Sandy. Sophomore Jaylyn Cline tallied 12 points in the loss.

The District 9C Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament takes place February 15-18 at the Havre High School Gymnasium.
