The Big Sandy Mountaineer -

The Big Sandy Barracudas brought home a second place trophy from the Chester Swim Meet, falling just short of winning to the Bitterroot Swim Team. Scoring individual wins this week were Jenna Leader (50 fly), Amiya Griffith (50 back), Grace Finke (100 breast), Dillin Geyer (100 fly), Kade Strutz (200 IM), Cam Schwarzbach (200 free) & Brady Pleninger (50 free, 100 free & 100 back). Brady Pleninger came home with another high point trophy and Cam Schwarzbach left his mark with another pool record in the 200 free. The 13-14 boys relay teams shattered the pool records in the 200 free and 200 medleys, having previously set them the year before.

Cam Schwarzbach was selected as the Momma Renville Kid for the 2017 season. This award is given to only one male and one female swimmer from Shauna Renville each year. The award is given in recognition for strong work ethic and good sportsmanship. Previous Momma Renville kids from the Barracudas team include Zach Leader, Brooke Leader and Kyle Strutz.

Big Sandy Places Third in Malta

Twenty-five Big Sandy Barracudas took to the pool in Malta and brought home a third place finish. The holiday weekend took several swimmers out of competition, but the Barracudas still managed strong showings from senior swimmer Jenna Leader, who won the 100 fly and placed second in the 200 IM and 50 fly. Intermediate swimmer Brady Pleninger racked up another high point trophy with wins in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back, while Cam Schwarzbach & Dillin Geyer each scored three 2nd place finishes in their individual races. Amiya Griffith won the 50 back and placed 2nd in the 50 fly, while Jozlyn Baumann, Mace Bachoco and Laynee Ophus all had strong showings in their events. First year swimmer MJ Griffith had a successful weekend as well, qualifying for championship heat in all three of his races. The Barracudas will compete in Hamilton this next weekend.
