Weather picture not good through early September

August 2, 2017

Everyone talks about it but no one can do anything about it. That is the weather and readers have been waiting for the National Weather Service to announce that the heat and drought is over.

That is not going to happen very soon according to the National Weather Service in Great Falls.

Starting now, the 1 to 2 week outlook is hot and dry.

August should be about average for temperatures but don't look for much in the way of precipitation unless models change. The Great Falls forecaster said that there is a slight chance in August for above normal temperatures.

Although some models show normal precipitation for August and September, there no models that show at this time for much moisture of any kind.

Looking at the three month forecast which includes August, September and October that forecast looks pretty similar to what we are experiencing now. Slightly above normal temperatures are seen but no great abundance of moisture.

Just getting through the next two to three weeks might be tough as we are going to be over a ridge of high pressure that will send a lot of desert heat coming our way. No precipitation of any large amount is anticipated.

The good news is that by the middle of August the sun goes down more quickly and it cools off more so maybe the heat will not be quite as grinding.

Meanwhile keep the air conditioning on, keep hydrated and keep thinking that you just might miss this when in January it has been twenty below for three weeks in a row!
