The Big Sandy Pioneer football team and head coach Ronnie Simpson have high expectations for this season and took a step in the right direction Friday evening. The Pioneers came from behind to edge Noxon 28-26.

Big Sandy got on the scoreboard first with freshman Kade Strutz finding paydirt from eight yards out. Senior Duke Darlington converted the extra point kick and the Pioneers were up 8-0 entering the second quarter.

Noxon scored twice in the second sandwiching another Strutz touchdown but it was the Pioneers who held the halftime advantage 14-12.

Noxon took control of the contest in the third quarter scoring a pair of touchdown and one conversion attempt to take a 26-14 lead into the fourth quarter of action.

The Pioneers are a young team and count on the underclassman to contribute in big ways and the team as a whole came together in the fourth quarter to rally for a huge come from behind win.

Senior Tanner Ship-Allderdice scored first for the Pioneers scoring on a six yard run. Darlington added another conversion and the Pioneers were within four, 26-22.

Strutz was clutch scoring his third touchdown of the contest on a five yard scamper to help seal the Pioneers first win of the season.

Big Sandy will now head out on the road for three straight road contest.

First the Pioneers will travel to Winifred to take on the Roy Winifred Outlaws this Saturday afternoon.

The following Saturday Big Sandy will take on the newest member of six man football the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans.

The team will then head to Heart Butte to challenge the Warriors before returning home September 22 when they will welcome the Sunburst refiners to town.

The annual Chili Feed will close out September as the Pioneers will face long time rival North Star on Friday, September 29.
