Fifth and Sixth Grade basketball fundraiser for New Uniforms

Coach Thomas Dilworth talks to his 5th & 6th grade boys team.

Parents quickly decided to create a fundraiser for the 5th and 6th grade boys' and girls' basketball team. Before the fundraiser, the Big Sandy swim team held their first registration of the year at the same place. The swim team had already scheduled their event, but it was determined it would be a good night to serve a meal to many people already at the school. It was also the night that two candidates for Big Sandy School Superintendent were being interviewed. Kelly Haaland of Melstone, and Steven Schwartz from Heart Butte were being interviewed up at the high school library.

They served Sloppy Joes, chips, cookies and drinks. They even set up tables in the gym to allow those eating to enjoy the scrimmage of the grade school basketball teams.

They were trying to raise funds to help pay for uniforms that were already purchased. There were no uniforms for the grade school basketball teams. Yes, there were some old shirts, but not enough, the rest wore t-shirts with numbers handed printed on them with a permanent maker. Everyone wore their own shorts, so none of them looked alike. They didn't look like a team. Coach Thomas Dilworth said, "these kids work very hard. They needed to feel like a team. They needed to look like a team. They needed to feel proud of their efforts." So, uniforms were purchased. The fundraiser was to help reimburse the purchase of them. If you are interested in supporting the grade school basketball team call the grade school and ask where you can send them a donation.
