2017 Chouteau County 4-H and Fair Results

4-H and FFA members from across Chouteau County had a very busy and successful 2017 Chouteau County Fair. Every 4-H and FFA member has worked over the past year in anticipation of this time of year. The 4-H livestock market sale, called by Scottie Peters and Beau Pegar, resulted in sales of $126370.30.


Twenty three market steers sold for a total of $66787.50. The average was $2.20 per pound. The grand champion steer, owned by Caleb Meeks sold for $3.40 per pound to Hi-Line Rental. The reserve champion, belonging to Brook Bomgardner, sold to Frontline Ag. for $2.30 per pound.


Eight market lambs averaged $5.08 per pound for a total of $5428.70. Lauren Crowder's grand champion sold to Pioneer Insurance for $6.35 per pound. The reserve champion lamb, owned by Charlie Arnst, sold to Hoven Equipment for $5.00 per pound.

The sale of 35 market hogs brought $38676.90. Average price per pound was $4.03. The grand champion, owned by Jonna McCullough, brought $4.75 per pound and was sold to Montana Ranch Insurance. Hoven Equipment purchased Bentley McCullough's reserve champion for $4.25 per pound.

Six bred heifers were sold for a total of $13,400.00 with an average price of $2233.34. The grand champion, owned by Bentley McCullough, brought $2200.00 and was purchased by Craig & Reanne Meeks. The Reserve Champion bred heifer, owned by Clay Blankenship was sold to O'Hara Land & Cattle for $2750.00.

The sale of 72 livestock projects was supported by 48 buyers. Due to generous donations of resale animals by Conn Forder and Lenington Farms $657.30 was raised for the Bleacher Fund and $600.25 for the 4-H Council donated by O'Hara Land and Cattle. A donation from N Hanging 5 Ranch was made to the Building fund in the amount of $705.00.

Montana 4-H reaches 26,000 youth across the state in all 56 counties. 4-H combines tradition with cutting edge skills through hands-on learning empowering youth in your community to lead for a lifetime. Members choose from a range of over 200 projects and learning experiences. Through these projects and experiences, members set goals, learn the skills needed to achieve goals, and demonstrate their skills at events such as county fairs, speaking contests and other competitions locally, statewide, regionally, nationally and internationally.
