In sticking with the theme of National Sewing Month, how many of you have been discouraged from sewing because of the cost? With some time and a little research on the web, you can find a lot of free or low cost supplies to get you back into the fun and creative world of sewing. For a little extra motivation, ask a friend or get a group together to do similar projects or finish those projects that got stashed away years ago—even if it is a couple times a year or every other month.

Let’s get back to finding those free and cheap supplies. If you are able to get online, just type in a search for “free clothing patterns” and you will find a whole array of ideas. You will find many people who share the joy of sewing who post free tutorials and patterns. Many of them post regularly so you have continual new ideas or maybe you just want to stay connected to what is new in the sewing world. I have found many patterns that can be downloaded and printed right from your home printed. It does take a little work and time to put them together like a puzzle but it is worth it.

In addition to finding patterns and ideas online, you can also find people who want to sell or give away fabric or other sewing related supplies, even sewing machines. Be careful though. Be sure the deal is not too good to be true. Many other ways to find sewing related supplies are at garage sales, second hand stores, newspapers ads, social media groups and asking people you know.

If you do not have access to the internet, please contact me to find alternative ways to help you out. In addition, do not forget about the Adult Education Sewing classes starting on September 18 at the Big Sandy High School. If these dates do not work, also give me a call for alternatives.
