September 27, 2017

The Montana Cross Country (MTXC) off Road Motorcycle series is a seven race series held in various communities across Montana to promote a competitive race environment for off road motorcycle riders. The races are held on rangeland or in forest and consist of technical single track trail, cow trails, hill climbs, creek crossings, log jumps, rock slides and mud pits. The races require riders to have a broad background in riding to be successful. The race organizers choose an area and design a series of trails for various skill levels, age groups and bike size.

The classes are 50cc, 65cc, 85cc junior (7-11 year old), 85cc Senior (12-15 year old), Girls (12-15 year old), Super Mini 80cc (12-15 year old), Vintage (30 year old bikes and older), Women’s B and C level, Men’s C, Men’s B, and Men’s A. Within the men’s A and B there are two motor sizes. The open class and the 250 class. The open class allows bikes from 125cc and above. The 250 class allows bikes 125cc-250cc only. The men’s classes are also broken in to four age groups. Veteran (30-39), Senior(40-49), super Senior (50-59) and Masters (60 and up).

Race series members come from Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Canada. The races are held in Melstone, billings, Belfry, Wolf Point, st. Regis, Whitehall and now Big Sandy. Austin and Raelynn Genereuex are promoting an AMA sanctioned race for the Montana Cross Country off road series on their ranch 6.5 miles East of Big Sandy on the Coal Mine Road. The event will take place October 7th and 8th with a pre-ride the night of the 6th for the kids and C track. There is a large campground area East of the sand rock formation that is visible form Coal Mine Road. There will be road signs indicating where to turn on Coal Mine Road and on the property.

Three separate tracks have been mapped and riders from different parts of the state visited Big Sandy starting in late June to plot the course and run the track to make visible lines for the racers to see. The course will also be well marked with flags, course tape, mile markers and caution and wrong way signs. The kids, vintage, men’s C and Women’s C track will be marked with blue flags and tape. The men’s A,B and Women’s B track will be marked with orange flags and tapes. Check points will also be set up on the tracks in various areas to assist riders and mark helmets to make sure riders have ran the entire course each lap. The kids track for the 50cc class in a ½ mile and those kids ride for 30 minutes. The 65cc, 85cc junior and girls class is 6.5 miles long and those kids ride for 1 hour. The 85cc senior, super mini, women’s C and vintage track is 9 miles long and they will run for 1 hour an d30 minutes. The men’s C track is 15 miles long and they race for 2 hours. The kids races are on Saturday and start with the 50cc class at 9:00 a.m. The men’s and women’s B and School Boy race will start at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning and be held on a 18 mile course over a 2 hour period. The men’s and women’s A classes will ride the 20 mile A track for 3 hours.

We encourage local riders and anyone interested in watching the races to come on out and have some great family fun. The campground and track have been designed so spectators will get a birds eye view of the racing. Spectators pay $5.00 person or $10.00 per car per day. The top finishing local rider from Big Sandy in the A and B and C classes including the school boy class will win $100 cash.
