Lions, Tigers, Wolves and Bears Oh My-It's Boy Scouts Again

September 19, 2018

Lianna Heimbigner, Scout leader, held a recruiting meeting to try and recharter the Boys Scouts in Big Sandy. She needs at least five kids before the Scouts can be re-chartered. The Lions are for Kindergarteners, Tigers for 1st grade, Wolf's for 2nd grade, Bears for 3rd grade, and Webelelos for 4th & 5th grade. These are Dens and the Pack is all the Dens together.

Usually the Dens will meet up to two times a month, where they will have activities. The Pack meetings are once a month where all age groups get together and engage in fun activities and recognize their achievements. Some pack meetings may consist of a special activities or outdoor event.

Tentatively the Boy Scout meetings will take place Monday after school at the library meeting room. Dues are for returning scouts is $35, but for new recruits it will be $45.

Each age group have requirements they will need to complete. For example, the Tigers are required to complete each of the six required adventures. • My Tiger Jungle, which is a quick study of a small square of nature to be studied with a magnifying glass • Games Tigers Play is learning some new games, • Tiger Circles which is our Duty to God, • Team Tiger which examinees team building exercise, • Tiger Bites is a look at good nutritional snacks, • Tigers in the Wild which is a hike outdoors. Each Den has its own requirements. Besides these exercise scouting builds confidence and self-esteem. Scouts also learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions.

If you want to know more about the Boy Scouts learning the Boy Scout Oath or Promise this will help you to understand their purpose: On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. The Boy Scout Motto is Be Prepared, and the Boy Scout Slogan Do a Good Turn Daily!

They are hoping they can sell popcorn here in Big Sandy again. Families have until the September 21st to let them know if they want to be a member of the Boy Scouts.
