Sunshine Snippers put up Hat and Mitten Tree

The 4H group, Sunshine Snippers decorating the Mitten and Hat Tree.

Sun Shine Snippers 4-H Club is a service organization not just an organization with learning projects. When they sold Martinson's Chocolates as a fund raiser this year they had to declare a service project. This year they decided to create a Hats and Mittens Tree at the FE Miley grade school.

Teachers were encouraged to find students in need of hats and mittens and allow those students to pick them off the tree for themselves and for their siblings. Any hats or mittens left will be donated to the school.

Teachers have mentioned that for years teachers and teacher aides have all purchased hats and mittens themselves to give to a student in need, storing them in their desks. Yes, some just forget their mittens or hats at home, but there is a large number of students who had no mittens or hats at all. So, this service project by the Sunshine Snippers is very much needed and welcomed.

Another service project they will be participating in is the Angel Tree gifts this year, and because they use the library a lot they decided to buy a Microwave for the Big Sandy Library. These service gifts this year have all been given at Christmas time. The true meaning of Christmas is surely the gift of service.

There are 17 Sunshine Snippers 4-H members. The officers of the Sun Shine Snippers are President-Hope Gasvoda; Vice President-Jayton Ophus; Treasurer- Lance Rutledge, Secretary-Faith Gasovda; Reporter-Elaina Weaver with Daisy Labuda; and Historian Colter Han. There are six adult leaders with Mary Ophus and Kristie Rutledge serving as Organization leaders.
