Peter Kolb (Montana State University Extension Forester) will be teaching gardeners about tree trimming, tree disease management and tree insect pest management on Thursday, April 4th from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Chouteau County Memorial Ambulance Building. The public is invited to attend.

Peter F. Kolb is the Montana State University Extension Forestry Specialist and an Associate Professor of Forest Ecology & Management, housed at the University of Montana in the Department of Forest Management. For the past two decades, Dr. Kolb has been a great resource for tree management in Montana. In addition, Dr. Kolb works with farmers and ranchers across central and eastern Montana on planning, establishing and maintaining windbreaks and shelterbelts.

The agenda of the class is below:

3:00-4:00: Tree Trimming Presentation

4:00-5:00: Hands on Tree Trimming

5:00-6:00: A Light dinner will be sponsored by the Fort Benton Tree Board, Fort Benton

Garden Club and Chouteau County Extension.

6:00-7:00: Diseases of Woody

Ornamentals

7:00-8:00: Insects of Woody Ornamentals

Please bring in tree samples for diagnosis of any issues. Dr. Kolb requests bringing both afflicted samples and healthy samples of the same tree. If you bring digital photos, please transfer the photos to a thumb drive instead of a cell phone. Paper photos are also welcome. Please bring close ups of the afflicted portions as well as a picture of the entire tree and landscape setting surrounding the tree.
