Barracudas celebrate their year of accomplishments

August 14, 2019

Kody Strutz took first at State in the 100 Breaststroke, defending his title from last year.

The end of the swim year for the Big Sandy Barracudas was held on August 8th with a dessert buffet, presentation of awards, slide show of the year, and team swim.

It's been a long season with everyone improving. Rookie of the year award went to Cassia Butler. Most time cut award went to Dorothea Merrill. Travis discussed how every year the most time cut during the year would be given to a bantam swimmer. They put it all together at the end of the season where they can easily take off numerous second in an event. Senior swimmers take off only fractions of a second with each completion during the year. This year one second was the difference for Brady Pleninger has he broke Federation records.

Mentorship award went to Cam Schwarzbach and Daisy Labuda. Sportsmanship award went to Tyler Schwarzbach and Jozlyn Baumann.

Tyler Schwarzbach and Jozlyn Baumann were awarded the "Sportsmanship Award" at the end of the year party.

Best helpers in snow cone fundraising were Ella and Audrey Idelman.

There were some funny awards given, as well. During dryland practice "my tummy wants doughnuts instead of crunches" award went to Dolan Sunchild. Jeremiah Genereux, Elijah Wagoner, and Bayley Genereux won the "best dive" award for their incredible belly flops. Dorothea Merrill also won the "best dance" award.

On the sports page, I want everyone who takes first at state to be acknowledged. I made a mistake last week and did not include Kody Strutz's first-place win. My son called me and informed me of my error. Not only did Kody Strutz take state in the Boys 13-14 100 Meter Breast, with a time of 1:19.75 which is 3 seconds faster than his entry time, but in so doing he also defended his first place in the same event in 2018.
