What's coming? "And what happened then? Well...in Whoville they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day!"
The Big Sandy Annual Christmas Stroll's theme this year is Merry Grinchmas. It takes place December 7th. It will have all your favorite activities including the craft bazar, the Christmas parade of lights, and button drawing that evening.
Starting last year, the CSI (Community Service and Improvement) Big Sandy committee asked the students of the Big Sandy High School to design the adult buttons. This year they also asked the grade school students to design the children's buttons. The two winners for the adult buttons are: Amanda Cline and Mia Dilworth. The two winners for the children's buttons are: Lauri Silvan and Lianna Janssen. The buttons go on sale the first of November for five dollars at the following locations: Hair I am, Agri Prairie Insurance, The Mint, The Grocery Store, and the Senior Center.

I was curious about the source of the book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which was first published in 1957. Why did he write it, what was the source of his creativity? What I found was intriguing. In the story, the Grinch said he has had to put up with the Whos "for 53 years." Theodor Geisel, the author of the book, was 53 years old when the book was written and published.
Seuss's step-daughter, Lark Dimond Cates, stated in a 2003 speech, 'I always thought the Cat (in the Hat) was Ted on his good days, and the Grinch was Ted on his bad days.' "
"According to Geisel: 'I was brushing my teeth on the 26th of last December, when I noticed a very Grinchish countenance in the mirror. It was Seuss. I wrote about my sour friend the Grinch to see if I could rediscover something about Christmas that obviously I'd lost."
We have one month to prepare our own countenance before our Big Sandy tradition of the Christmas Stoll and two months to prepare our hearts before Christmas. Maybe the size of hearts could grow three sizes by then.
