Laura Sheehy

January 1, 2020

Laura Rose (Chagnon) Sheehy was born in Havre, Montana on September 17, 1923, to Leon and Josephine (Gasiorowski) Chagnon. She peacefully passed into eternity the night of December 18, 2019, at the age of 96.

She began her education at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic School and graduated from Havre High School. After graduation, Laura worked for McCauley Plumbing in Havre. It was there she met John Sheehy. They were married on April 28, 1951. They made their home on Sheehy Ranch in the foothills of the Bear Paw Mountains from 1951 until 2015 when she was no longer able to care for herself.

Laura enjoyed the country lifestyle all of her life. She raised a bountiful garden each summer and spent many late summer days canning and freezing produce to enjoy throughout the winter months. Her well-manicured yard was filled with seasonal flowers and served as a refreshing oasis for her family and friends. Laura was known for her delicious pies and hearty meals. Many veterinarians planned their working day to finish just in time to be invited to lunch.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John; her parents; brothers, George, Fred, Bill, Lee, and Paul; and sisters, Ida Patera, Helen Anderson, and Minnie Davey. She is survived by her three children Thomas, Janet, and Marjory; six grandchildren, Jessica Sheehy, Jon (Jessica) Sheehy, Don Mullen, Lisa Mullen (James) Penas, Corey Berlinger, Mariah Sheehy; and four great-grandchildren.

Laura was wonderfully loved and cared for in the Big Sandy Medical Long-Term Care Center during the final three years of her life.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to relatives, friends, and community members who have been supportive during this time.

Cremation has taken place and graveside services was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at the Big Sandy Cemetery.
