Big Sandy Pioneers Pound the NorthStar Knights 42-7

September 9, 2020

Big Sandy made quick work of North Star, Saturday afternoon in Rudyard, beating the hometown Knights 42 -7. Overall it was a solid day of football for the Pioneers with Seniors setting the tone and young leaders like Kody Strutz stepping up big with flashes of greatness.

The pioneers showed some creativity early on the offensive side of the ball with Kade Strutz starting the afternoon with a 12 yard completion (yes I said completion) to Parker Proulx, before pounding his way in from 20 yard out on the next possession.

It took only two play for the Pioneers to get the ball back as Cam Schwarzbach busted threw the line on second down with a crushing strip sack and recover on the Knights own 11 yard line. Three plays later they were in the endzone again as Kade danced in from 10 yards out. An. d that was pretty much how the afternoon went, with the Pioneers forcing their will mixing things up on the offensive side of the ball.

The pure dominance lead to an early running clock and an opportunity for some of the younger players to get some quality game minutes. Sophomore Braydon Cline showed off some of his newfound foot speed he acquired this offseason, leading all rushers with 7 carries for 61 yards and 1 touchdown! Cooper Taylor led the team with 6 tackles on defense including a touchdown saving rundown of the North Stars, Jaden Seargent. Even freshman Sam Cox got in the mix with a bone crushing solo tackle of his own right before half time.

Even with all the big hits, the highlight of the afternoon had to be the perfectly executed onside kick from Parker Proulx to Kody Strutz. Parker hit ball squarely dropping it just over Kody's shoulder as he dove to haul in the football before rolling out of bounds. It was a thing of beauty, like watching poetry in motion.
