The Big Sandy Mountaineer -

The dictionary says that a (collector) is a person who collects things of a particular type as a hobby. Clyde Webster, known to his friends as Web, sure took to collecting cars.

Clyde collected vehicles all of his life. He was not brand specific; he liked them all. Web enjoyed driving, working, tuning, fixing, looking at, and shopping for the next great find. Web was particularly fond of a good Oldsmobile. You would have to say the Oldsmobile brand was his favorite. His collection was his pride & joy. People driving through Big Sandy often would inquire about who had all the cars behind the grocery store. You would hear them say, "well, I am going to contact the owner and buy this one or that one from him." We always laughed and wished them good luck with that.

I am reminded of the reading from the bible in Ecclesiastes 3-5 that says, "there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens." The reading says, "A time to gather and a time to scatter, a time to keep and a time to throw away." With this auction, we will be going into the scatter phase selling the collection all over the country.

The (collection) has caused some controversy over the years. Sometimes one person's vision doesn't always mesh with the neighbor's idea of what it should look like in town. I feel that this auction will be a vindication for Clyde. This collection was his 401K. If he hadn't had the fortitude/ foresight to take the time and effort for 80-plus years, many of these cars would have been crushed years ago and would not be available for sale now.

The auction is only online. Bidding opens on August 10th and closes on August 17th, 2022.

We estimate there are 175 plus units. They are in no particular order, ranging from a 1929 Ford – a 2007 Corvette. This first online auction run has 35 lots. With the help of Lenard Jappe and Wally Duchscher (the local car experts), we have done our best for the accuracy of Vins and

years. YOU must do your homework and verify all information. Walk-ins to view the cars are welcome seven days a week, 8 am – 8 pm, at the Ophus Auction yard highway 87 Big Sandy, MT.
