Pioneers split the weekend; coming up short to Chinook 40-71, and claiming the win from Hays/Lodgepole 67-58

Sophomore, Eva Yeadon (20) tips one in during the game agaist the Lady Thunderbirds.

The Lady Pioneers started off strong with aggressive defense and hustle with attacks to the basket winning 67-58. The Hays Thunderbirds did a great job on offensive rebounding but couldn't put back their second chance shots. Eva Yeadon and Eva Wagoner both had a great first quarter attacking the basket, and knocking down three pointers, as well as getting some great steals. Hayes got a three-point basket at the end of the first quarter down by nine points with a score of 18 to 7.

The second quarter started with a technical foul from the Hays team. Big Sandy struggled in the second quarter with turnovers and missed shots. Hayes continued to dominate on the offensive rebound end, as well as getting fouls from Big Sandy to put them at the free throw line. Hayes was hot from the floor outscoring the Lady Pioneers by 14 points in the second quarter going into halftime up three points with a score of 31 to 34.


The third quarter was a battle between the Lady Pioneers and the Lady ThunderBirds. Hayes took their biggest lead in the middle of the third quarter up 11 points but the lady Pioneers didn't give up and hit some big three pointers. The Lady ThunderBirds hit a layup at the end of the quarter to go into the 4th quarter up six points.

The Lady Pioneers dominated the fourth quarter with hustle, steals and nice buckets across the board. Hayes couldn't capitalize on some shots and ended up going down 10. After free throws from both teams at the end of the game the Lady Pioneers ended up winning by nine points with the score of 67 to 58.

Against Chinook the Lady Pioneers started off on fire in their fist minute and a half with big plays from Keira Galbavy, before losing 40-71 . Galbavy had a big steal and nice post move as well and a big board and bucket putting the Lady Pioneers up 6-0, causing the Lady Sugarbeeters to take a timeout. Chinook came out main som adjustments and th Lady Pioneers made a couple turnovers in which The Lady Sugarbeeters to capitalize on two 3 pointers, and a fast break bucket. After being scoreless for 2 minutes and a 10second backcourt violation, the Lady Pioneers ended the quarter down 10 with a score of 8-18.


Second quarter started with more woes for The Lady Pioneers. After a long two pointer from Eva Yeadon, the Lady Pioneers went back to being held scoreless for the next 5 minutes. Chinook was controlling the boards. The physicality of the game was aggressive and Big Sandy had several fouls. Chinook took advantage of this and headed to the free throw line. After some good baskets from Eva Yeadon into Eva Wagoner, Chinook ended up making two 3 pointers and putting them up 14 to 31 going into half.

The second half was more of like the first half. Chinook had some great offensive plays and shot really well from the field. Big Sandy had a few more turnovers, but got some great offensive plays from Keira Galbavy, Eva Wagoner Jai Baumann. Big Sandy had some great hustle plays and big steals to do what they could to stay in the game. Chinook's 3-point percentage was a critical Factor and Big Sandy couldn't stop them. The lady Pioneers got a couple buckets from Brianna Terry and Carmen Tan to end the game losing by 31 points with a score of 40 to 71.

The Lady Pioneers had 31 steals in total this last weekend and are averaging 37% of their shots.
