Concealed Weapon Class

September 28, 2016

If you are interested in carrying a concealed weapon, circle the dates of Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29. For Big Sandy Adult Education is bringing Dr. David Simpson to Big Sandy to conduct a two day Concealed Weapon class. See Sherri Heppner at the high school for specific times for the two day class.

The class will be held at the Big Sandy Gun Club Shooting range.

Goals for the class are to provide basic knowledge, attitude (mind set) and skill set in knowing and using a firearm in a safe manner and to test that knowledge and skill in a classroom and in a live fire situation.

The class will provide the student basic knowledge of Montana State Codes, statutes and regulations regarding the carrying and possible use of a concealed weapon.

Students will learn in the process of filing for the Montana Concealed Weapons Permit.

Heppner said that to be eligible to take the class, “One must be 18 years old or older, must be a member in good standing in the community, must be allowed by law to possess a firearm and meet state, federal and local guidelines and must be physically capable of performing the skills required in the class.”

Heppner went on to say that they can accommodate handicapped or disabled students if notified of needs prior to class and range facilities are amenable.

The cost is $50.00 per person which includes a light meal on Friday and a lunch on Saturday. That fee is payable to Big Sandy Adult Education.

The tuition does not cover a gun, magazines, mag, ammunition, holster, heavy duty belt, eye and ear protection, appropriate clothing for outdoor weather, transportation and personal items. These items must be provided by the student.

As to a gun, Dr. Simpson suggests you do not purchase a gun just for this class. He recommends you take the class and get a feel for what works best for you. He can provide several types of

See Page 2: Weapon firearms such as semi-autos and revolvers for the class. However, the student must provide the ammunition (factory loads only). Notify Sherri Heppner at the preregistration is you will need a firearm provided.

The class will be offered on a first come/first served basis and is limited to 20 participants. The class filled up quickly last year so interested participants are encouraged to call early to insure a seat in the class.

Contact Sherri Heppner by noon on Thursday, October 20 to preregister. Heppner is located at the Big Sandy high school
