At the regular City Council meeting, after the pledge was recited and the minutes read, the meeting continued on. There were three visitors present and no public comments.

The new Chouteau County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Echols was at the Council meeting.

Regarding the Wastewater Project, there were no draws and there was discussion about the new grass to be planted in some areas. The Mayor said it is still a process. There could be a couple of blocks of sewer line redone as the grade is wrong. That depends on the weather, when that happens.

The new water project was discussed and is moving forward.

Mayor Stiles said that the Brownfield Project at the old gas station is funded for 3 wells to be dug and information gathered in the vicinity of the four way stop.

In New Business the second reading of ordinance 201601 which is regarding Business licenses was read and passed into law.


“This goes into effect in January,” added the Mayor. “It puts a $25.00 business fee for all businesses except for nonprofit businesses. People coming through can get a two day license for $25.00 or $65.00 a year.”

Ordinance 201602 has its first reading. It is about no slaughtering of animals in the city limits.

Dogs and small animals in Big Sandy were discussed. The Mayor said there is a pretty good ordinance done in 2011 but it needs a little more work.

The Council is purchasing a conference phone so everyone can hear and everyone can participate in meetings.

Montana Department of Transportation is looking to see if there are any local projects for two years forward that would affect area highways.


The Department of Justice contacted the City to see if there were any ordinances regarding gambling hours. The Mayor said that Big Sandy falls under state statutes.

The City is still waiting on information on water and sewer rates for properties without dwellings on them.

The Rotary paid $4200.00 for a survey on where a new swimming pool could be built, how much it would cost etc. The City threw in another thousand to get more information out of the engineers putting together the survey.

New Field is a branch of Bear Paw Development. They would like to be able to gain access to the old hotel to see if it could get help in the Brownfield works.

Councilmember Colby Baumgarn went to the last Bear Paw Development meeting where they did their budget.

Public Works has filled in some holes and fixed a large leak this month among other things.

The Mayor said there are always the same players on the shut off list.

Claims and vouchers were paid and the meeting was adjourned.

The next regular City Council meeting will be on December 9.
