Trustees to Appoint New Board Member

May 4, 2016

The Big Sandy School Board of Trustees will be looking to appoint a new trustee at the upcoming May 17 board meeting. Since there were more positions up for election than people that filed for those positions the May 3, 2016 election was cancelled. In accordance to Montana law the trustees have 60 days to appoint a new trustee. The goal of the trustees is to be able to appoint the new trustee at the May 17th board meeting where the new board members are sworn in and the Chairperson and Vice-Chair are elected by the board.

There are a few requirements when being considered for a trustee position. The person must reside in the school district and be a registered voter. They also need to submit a letter of interest to the District Clerk no later than May 10, 2016. As part of our long term planning process for the school the trustees are engaging in several strategic planning sessions under the guidance of the Montana School Board Association. The first of these very important sessions will be May 10, 2016 from 2:00-5:00 PM in the high school library. It is highly encouraged that all persons interested in being appointed as a trustee attend this session, so they can be up to speed for the remaining sessions as well as have insight to the long term planning strategies and goals of the current school board.

If anyone has any questions about the trustee position, feel free to contact the District Clerk, Maryetta Engle at the high school office.
