New Teachers at Big Sandy Schools

August 17, 2016

There will be many new teachers this year at Big Sandy Schools as school gets underway. Most of our new staff are from the area or have ties to the area, which is a real plus. At FE Miley Katie Hanson, who student taught in 3rd grade last year, will be assuming the 1st grade teaching duties. Katie completed her elementary education degree at MSU-N this past spring. Katie is a graduate of Big Sandy High School, so we are excited that she chose to start her teaching career in her hometown. Calista Worrall will be taking over the 5th grade teaching duties. Calista recently worked for the Fort Benton schools and before that she was the Pre-School teacher in Big Sandy. Her three girls will be attending school also at FE Miley. Margaret Fasteson moved to Big Sandy last spring and did some long term subbing at the elementary school, and she will be the new 6th grade teacher. For the first time in many years we were able to add a full-time librarian to our staff. Both libraries are in need of attention, so we hired James Howland, who recently taught in Rosebud, MT and has family in the Havre area. James also has teaching endorsements in English and History. Jessica Jaramillo from Helena will be the new full-time art teacher. She just recently graduated from MSU-Bozeman. We are very excited to have a full time art teacher on staff and hope to utilize her talents at the elementary school as well. Emily Wheeler from Bozeman will be assuming the history teaching duties. Emily was raised in the Gallatin Valley but has family ties to the Big Sandy area. Kim Perry from Malta will be teaching the 7-12 English this year. She is a recent graduate from MSU-N. Big Sandy graduate Shersteen Cline is returning home to take over the Computer/Business teaching duties as well as teaching some science courses. Shersteen is also the head volleyball coach. Shersteen spent the last two years teaching and coaching in Nashua. We are looking forward to what each of these individuals bring to our students, school and community. We will be having an open house on August 29th and 30th in the high school and elementary school respectively from 4-7 PM, so stop in and meet our new staff.
