Celebrating Christmas Past"

Big Sandy Christmas Stroll News

November 9, 2016

Chamber of Commerce gurus Marlys Edmonds and Lis Maxwell were at "The Mountaineer" last week talking about things new and old regarding this year's Christmas Stroll which will be held on December 3, 2016

Griswold Decorating Event

First, they talked about the Griswold Decorating Event where on the first Friday before Thanksgiving, (November 18) people will gather at 1pm at the Fireman's Park to help decorate Big Sandy for Christmas. Not only does this include Main Street but residential houses will be decorated that afternoon as well. If you need help in decorating your business or home, meet at the Fireman's Park on November 18 at 1pm.

Craft Show

For people attending the annual Big Sandy Christmas Stroll on December 3, the Crafter's Show at the Jerry Martin Memorial Hall is one of the most important events.

The Crafters have set up and are open for business on December 3 at 9am. The show runs until 4pm. Show organizers say that no one will be dissembling their craft tables until after the show closes at 4pm.

This is the only time during the year that Big Sandy people and people from elsewhere can buy gifts unique to the mountains and prairies around Big Sandy and Big Sandy itself.

A few of the areas that will be featured are buttons and all kinds of crafts for indoors and outside as well.

There will be a full pantry for Christmas goodies, enough that you might not have to pickle, bake or cook for Christmas at all. There are candles and scents and most important, this is the best place ever to buy really unique and to be loved Christmas presents.

If you need a gift for a very special person or if you are suffering from pre-holiday blues, buy something at the Craft Show. Or several Somethings. All of a sudden someone's life will become better and yours may become better as well. December will be better for everyone.

Crafters are reminded that they need to get their registration forms in. As of early November, more than half the tables were spoken for.

Lis Maxwell, who is heading up the Craft show, said, "There is a limited amount of space and outlets available. All table locations and outlet requests will be honored in the order of registrations received by the postmarked date.

Crafters can set up on December 2 from 6 to 8pm and early in the morning of December 3. Last year all tables were sold out early.

Tables cost the same as last year, that if fifteen dollars for the day.

HAY RIDES AND LIVE NATIVITY

This year Ross and Darci Darlington are bringing in a wagon filled with lots of hay and pulled by old Dobbin who was thought to be buried under the Agri-Prairie bathroom!

The free hay rides will start at 1pm at Fireman's Park. Rides will continue all afternoon.

Patti's Snack Shack will be set up there for the afternoon with treats and hot drinks for all.

There is no charge for the hay rides.

The Live Nativity will be set up all afternoon in the parking lot next to Wells Fargo.

Both of these activities are contingent on the weather. If it is too cold for the animals, these activities will be cancelled until next year.
