New English Teacher at BSHS

September 27, 2017

There is nothing more important in any community than the education of its young people. And, it is also true that there is nothing more important to any community then getting the very best teachers available in any year.

Name: Sarah Pugh

What position are you teaching at what school?

I am the 7-12 English teacher at Big Sandy High School.

How did you hear about a position being open at Big Sandy?

I found their listing on the OPI website.

Is this your first teaching job? If not where have you been before and what did you teach?

This is not my first teaching job; I taught 7-12 English for three years in Richey, Montana.

What is your favorite teaching subject?

Writing is my favorite subject to teach.

What are your first impressions of Big Sandy?

Big Sandy is a friendly, familiar town. I was raised in Winifred, so I know quite a few people from here and feel comfortable in the community.

How about your hobbies. What do you do in your spare time?

I love to read, write, exercise, work with horses, do puzzles, and go hiking.

What is most important for you about education?

If I had to pick a single most important aspect of education, I would likely pick writing. I believe it is essential for people to know how to use the language they speak well.

What about your subject is the most fun for you and for those you are educating?

I think the most fun I've had as a teacher has been during those "Aha!" moments for my students. This usually happens when we're reading a difficult text or when a student realizes how well he/she can write. Real learning is exhilarating.
