Booster club continues to support local projects

November 13, 2019

A note of thanks was received from the volleyball team for the purchase of new balls and a ball rack.

New Pioneer Gear is available at Hair I Am. An order for additional children and adult clothing (with a selection of the pioneer or wagon logos) will be arriving in the first part of December just in time for Christmas presents.

The Winter Kick-off is being planned for Monday, December 9, at the Jerry Martin Memorial Hall in recognition of accomplishments in recent sporting and extra-curricular events by Big Sandy's youth. Introductions of winter athletes will also take place.

The Booster Club voted to contribute $3000 towards the Pixellot camera system that will be installed in the gym and on the football field. This fully automated system features "smart" cameras that follow athletic action without the need for a camera operator. They also sync with the scoreboard to provide real-time scoring action. The school board and the Big Sandy Student Council have each pledged $1000 towards the project.

Booster Club is fundraising and working with the Big Sandy School District to renovate the grade school basketball courts; the concrete has deteriorated over the years making activities on the cement precarious. The current plan is to remove the existing concrete and pour a 40'x80' concrete slab that will be large enough for students and the community to practice: tennis, volleyball, basketball (both 8' and 10" hoops) and badminton. Rotary and the student council have pledged financial assistance. Profits from the 2019-2020 high school basketball seasons' 50/50 and pop shoot will be put toward the court project. The cost for concrete is over $15,000 with no labor included, the cost of 4 insurance approved hoops is another $6000 for a total estimated cost of $21,000. The project will utilize the expertise of a local contractor and a lot of volunteer labor! Donations and assistance would be greatly appreciated so that the concrete can be poured in the spring and hoops installed all at one time. Questions about this project: contact Anna Bold, Big Sandy Booster Club, Vice President.

All community members are invited to our monthly meetings. The next meeting is on Monday, December 3, at the Senior Citizen's Center, starting at 7 pm.
