Barracudas to hold meet this Saturday

June 10, 2020

The Big Sandy Barracudas, under the direction of coaches Travis Baumann and Connie Reichelt, are back in the pool for their 9th season as a team. 36 swimmers are on the team this year and while they have taken to the pool to begin their summer training, they have been left with a very uncertain season. COVID-19 restrictions still in place have left teams in other towns unwilling or unable to host their regularly scheduled swim meets. These other teams are working with their local health departments and city councils to try to host meets, but the limitations on gatherings over 50 people, along with fears of a second wave of infection has made this a difficult undertaking.

Rather than potentially face a season with no meets, the Barracudas will be hosting their own meet this Saturday, June 13th. The first event will be held at 10:00 a.m.

If you’ve never attended a swim meet, this is the perfect opportunity to catch your local team in action. Whether you favor watching the 8-under swimmers learn their skills, or watching the fast-paced action of the senior swimmers, a swim meet offers something for everyone! While the Barracudas will only be swimming against their own teammates, it’s a great opportunity to watch these dedicated athletes perform in the pool. The meet is being held with approval from the Big Sandy City Council and the Choteau County Health Department, with all necessary sanitation and social distancing protocols in place.

Bleachers will be provided for spectators, but the team asks that you occupy the bleachers only while watching your favorite swimmers. If you plan to be at the meet for the day, we recommend you bring a lawn chair and “camp” in the park between your races of interest.

Concessions will be offered, with a limited menu.

If you’re more inclined to stay inside, the meet will be broadcast on the NFHS network. The link to the meet will be found on the Big Sandy Schools web page and on Facebook.
