August Steve Otto

August Steve Otto 86 of Lewistown died Friday evening at his home surrounded by family of natural causes. He was born April 14, 1934 in Beltrami County, MN the son of Steve and Natalia (Meger) Otto. He received his schooling in Country Schools in Northern Minnesota. On December 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ruth I. Lamb in Williams, MN. In 1956 they moved to Montana and he worked as a trapper and contractor in several places. He operated the Virgelle Ferry for 18 years and they then lived and operated a ranch near Grass Range until 2010 when they moved into Lewistown.

August enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, woodworking and spending time with his family teaching the values of life and hard work.

He was a member of the Montana Trappers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Ruth of Lewistown; children Pam (Danny) Walter of Shepherd, MT, Beverly Terry of Virgelle, MT, Duane (Annie) Otto of Lewistown, MT, Louise (Pat) Gallagher of Molt, MT, Mary (Chris) Baxter of Pollock Pines, CA, Verna (Dan) Hughes of Lewistown, MT and Bill (Valerie) Otto of Belgrade, MT; siblings David (Neislena) Otto of Havre, MT, Bertha Alfaters of Havre, MT and Jane (James) Dosvh in North Dakota; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Vivian, his parents, 3 brother and 2 sisters.

Graveside Services for August S. Otto will be Thursday, April 8th, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
