Big Sandy Pioneers take down Box Elder Bears 62-0

October 6, 2021

Big Sandy Pioneer, Sophomore, Sam Cox (31) hold the ball as the Bears try to bring him down.

The Big Sandy Pioneers defeated the Box Elder Bears with a 62-0 Shutout. Assistant coach Tucker Taylor had this to say about the game. "The boys played a good game. It was a good opportunity for some of our younger guys to get some good game time. All of them played well. Sam Cox did a great job at linebacker and fullback in the second half. We are really looking forward to our matchup next week against North Star. Ryder Galbavy will be able to play, and we should have Lance Rutledge back." Ryder broke his arm during football camp this summer, and his coaches are excited to have him back and healthy. This should almost put the Pioneers back with a full roster of their starting players.

I had a chance to chat with Cooper Taylor, who plays Safety on Defense and Wide Receiver and Running Back on Offense. Taylor confirmed that his team had a goal to have a shutout game against the Bears and were pleased to have achieved that goal. "We wanted one good team effort to create a shutout." When quizzed about the team's strengths and weaknesses, Taylor felt the team's ability "to move from position to position is a good thing. We need to understand all the positions because we are a young team". According to Taylor, being a young team can be hard when you don't have all your starters and can practice together and be in sync with each other.

Taylor also said, "We can't get mad at each other if we miss a play or make a mistake because it defeats us. We need to try to stay happy and not look at the missed plays. In this game, we supported each other." Taylor felt the team played much better this game because they supported one another, played as a unit, and did not let any errors get them down. When asked what he thought his strength was, he had a quick answer. "My Speed." I don't think anyone who has watched him play would argue with that. He admits to having high hopes of the Pioneers making it into the championship playoffs. Which I am sure all of us fans are hoping to see happen as well.
