In late 2020 I became a board member for the Big Sandy Senior Center. I feel the community needs to have a better understanding of what is happening with the Center, as there is a lot of misinformation being spread around the community. The Center is experiencing a HUGE FINANCIAL DEFICIT which is why we are considering closing hopefully temporarily. For the past year we have been monitoring the Center income and output of money. Unfortunately, the Center has shown losses for the past 13 months. There are reserve funds which we have used to help with the monthly expenses, but this money was earmarked for large items such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves etc, but to keep the Center viable we had to dip into the money. We looked back from February 2021 through February 2022, and it shows a loss of $39714.76. This is not sustainable. We need to work on cutting expenses, generating more support from the community, and hopefully find a benefactor willing to donate $40,000 to $50,000 per year but not very realistic. We need board members. Several board members terms are done this spring. The Center needs to get its Fiscal House in order. We do not want to close the Center but it cannot sustain itself if we stay on this path. Any questions or concerns call me Pat Matthew 406-378-2322 Thank You Big Sandy!!
