Pioneers Reign in the North, they take down Valier 67-0

The Big Sandy Pioneers are back on top in the 6-Man North, and they're far from done. As the final whistle sounded on Wednesday afternoon the Pioneers had proven themselves ready for a deep postseason campaign. Valier came into the contest with an impressive 6-1 record on the year. The Pioneer football team dominated the game from start to finish.

The first score for the Pioneers came on a 2 yard touchdown run by Kody Strutz. Ty Terry would cap off the score with a successful 2 point kick. A tipped ball by defensive end Wylee Snapp would end up in the arms of linebacker Rusty Gasvoda for an interception ending Valier's first offensive possession. Braydon Cline would find a leaping Kody Strutz in the corner of the endzone for the second touchdown of the game. After another successful Ty Terry kick the Pioneers would be up 16-0 halfway through the first quarter. The Big Sandy defense continued to fire on all cylinders forcing a Valier punt. Kody Strutz would find the endzone again on a 1 yard carry, finishing another impressive Pioneer scoring drive. Ty Terry put it through the uprights to put the Pioneers up 24-0 with time still remaining in the first quarter. After another quick change of possession the Pioneers would find the endzone again before quarters end. Braydon Cline threw a quick strike to Kody Strutz who would make a slick move before taking the ball another 40 yards for the 47 yard score. The Pioneers would lead 32-0 after the first quarter. A scoreless second quarter would see the Pioneers holding the same lead at halftime.

The first score of the third quarter would come on a Kody Strutz interception return for a touchdown, his fifth score of the game. A missed extra point would keep the lead at 38-0, early in the third. The Pioneer defense would force another punt, putting the offense in a good scoring position. Braydon Cline would connect with Rusty Gasvoda for his third touchdown pass of the contest. A successful Ty Terry Kick would make the score 44-0 at the end of the quarter.

Junior Sam Cox would blast into the endzone early in the 4th quarter on a 3 yard scoring rush putting the team up 52-0 after the converted extra point. Wylee Snapp would recover a fumble in the endzone for another defensive score for the Pioneers. Another converted kick by Ty Terry would have the Pioneers lead at 60-0. The last score of the contest would come on a Jake Darlington pass to freshman Wesley Cox for a 7 yard touchdown. Wesley Cox would also catch the extra point attempt thrown by Jake Darlington to make the final score 67-0. Big Sandy will host Savage in the first round of the 6-Man playoffs this Friday at 7PM. The Pioneers will enter the postseason as the #1 seed out of the North. The only other unbeaten 6-Man team in the state is the# 1 seed out of the South, Broadview-Lavina.
