Pioneer Boys win two with ease: Squashing the Beeters 72-42 and taking down the Thunderbirds 73-49

Senior, Isaac Pedraza (23) tips one in for the Pioneers. Big Sandy Come away with win against the Thunderbirds.

The Pioneers dominated early winning against Hays 73-49. Wiley Snapp opened up the game with a layup and on the defensive end Big Sandy had a 3/4 press, which caused Hays to turn the ball over. Hays got several offensive rebounds, but couldn't capitalize on second chance buckets. Big offensive plays came from Braydon Cline, Isaac Pedraza, and Kody Strutz. Big Sandy had aggressive defense with several players having steals, and Strutz taking a charge. Big Sandy attacked the middle of the basket with ease while scoring buckets putting the Pioneers up 16 to 8 going into the second quarter.

Strutz opened up the second quarter with a nice take and a steal and a fast break layup to follow putting the Pioneers up 20 to 8. The Pioneers had great offensive plays and defensive plays from Pedraza Snapp, Strutz, and Cline. Hays had a hard time getting an offense set up and scoring buckets. The Pioneers outscored the Thunderbirds 20 points to nine points in the second quarter. The Pioneers went to halftime up 36 to 17.


The second half was more of like the first half with Hays not being able to capitalize on shots or setting up an offense. The Pioneers had great defense, patience on offense and scored some great layups and three pointers across the board. Hays struggled to keep up and the Pioneers ended up winning with a score of 73 to 49.

The Pioneers came to play against the Sugarbeeters winning 72-42. The Pioneer started out with a three pointer from Braydon Cline. On defense the Pioneers set up in an aggressive half-court trap set to cause Chinook to turn the ball over in the first possession. Then the Pioneers had a give-and-go from Cline to Wiley Snapp. Kody Strutz followed with a big steal and a fast break layup putting the Pioneers up 7 to 0. Strutz hit Cline on a back door for a score. Cline then also got a steal and a bucket putting the Pioneers up 11 to 0. Snapp also got a nice block and a take. Chinook struggled with Big Sandy's 3/4 press and had several turnovers. After a couple big plays from Strutz to Isaac Pedraza and a big three pointer from Cline put the Pioneers up 20 to 4 going into the second quarter.


The second quarter was more like the first with several big plays from Strutz, Cline, Pedraza and Ryder Galbavy. The Pioneers had several steals and hustle plays as well as taking a charge. Chinook didn't give up, and tried to push through with a 9-0 run to end the second quarter, but still fell short of the Pioneers with a score of 34 to 16.

The second half, the Pioneers came out with some excellent plays from their starting five. Chinook had a difficult time guarding the middle of the key to stop Big Sandy from scoring. The Sugar Beaters also struggled from making any of their shots from outside. The Pioneers had some great fundamental plays with give-and-go's, penetrations to the middle, and cutting to the basket for easy scores. Chinook couldn't stop Big Sandy's aggressive offensive play, and aggressive defensive stops, and ended up falling short to the Pioneers by 30 points with the score of 72 to 42.

Senior, Braydon Cline (12) goes to score agaisnt Hays/Lodgepole.

The boys had 29 steals and are averaging 53 % of their shots.
