Letters to the Editor

March 15, 2023

An ad in the paper got me thinking about what a great school board member would look like. Someone whose goal is to serve the children of the community by working with others to provide the best learning experience for each and every one of them? Or someone more interested in a broader political agenda? Someone who is capable of explaining their position on an issue in a rational way and listening to other points of view? Or someone who can only screech"woke" and start a fight when encountering a person with an opinion different from their own? Someone who recognizes that common decency and simple good manners dictate that we address people by the names (and pronouns) they prefer? Or someone who encourages bullying behavior by telling children that there are specific exceptions to that rule?

That said, I'd like to express my gratitude to all school trustees, past, present and future, for your service in a difficult and often thankless job.

Editor’s Note: Last week's article about the school board, there was a mentin of a Letter to the Editor. We are sorry it was left out, it is below.

I was staying at the same hotel as your boys team this past weekend. Even though I was there rooting for a different team, I feel it necessary to write you a short note and tell you and the rest of the staff how well the boys conducted themselves. I was expecting a lot of noise and such, considering how well they were doing in the tournament but nothing could be further from the truth. They represented their town and themselves with decorum and class through the whole 3 days that I stayed there. I always follow the tournaments because of my numerous grandchildren and good behavior isn’t always the norm unfortunately. Your boys conducted themselves like true champions and definitely young men that their parents can be proud of.

Sincerely,

Alfred Thomas
