Pioneer Volleyball goes to District in 2nd place

This last week, the Lady Pioneer volleyball team played a very tough Lady Miner team in Big Sandy. Centerville ended up winning in 5 sets, but let me tell you, these Lady Pioneers are so much fun to watch. I love watching them because they show true heart. They show that when adversity hits, they don’t quit! They have a winning mentality and do everything they can to come together as a team, and buckle down and work hard. If you still haven’t watched them, you need to go see them at Districts, because to watch them is really what sports are all about!

All 5 sets were very intense with back and forth play. Both teams were very aggressive. The Lady Pioneers had some amazing hits, great digs, super assists, and hustle plays. Everything seemed to be working for them on the court, but it was also working for Centerville. It was great communication, and effort for the Lady Pioneers, but unfortunately, they fell just short. The set scores were as follows: 25-23, 26-28, 25-18, 19-25, and 14-16. Every set was so close! When asked about her team, Coach said, “We battled hard with Centerville, but unfortunately came up short in a long 5 set match. It was an interesting night with the power outage, but it was our Pink Night and we were thankful to remain in our home gym. Overall, we did some really good things, but ultimately didn’t finish. In my opinion, it keeps them humble and hungry, which is exactly what we want entering tournament time.”

Team stats:

DIgs: 105, with Jai Baumann having 27.

Assists: 25, with Jain Baumann having 12.

Kills: 32, with Eva Yeadon having 11.

Blocks: 11, with Keira Galbavy having 7.

Aces: 3, with Keira Galbavy having all 3.

Coach, Brittany McKenney, with her final regular season thoughts before going into tournament, said, “We finished with a conference record of 11-3, and an overall record of 12-3, which is definitely exciting! This is by far the best season we’ve had, since I’ve been coaching, We were able to secure the #2 spot in the conference, which is the highest ranking we’ve had, entering the District tournament. We will play Box Elder, once the 1:00 pm match is over on Thursday. We would love to see our Pioneer fans in the Fort Benton stands! This team has big goals and we are putting in the work to reach them.”
