The Lady Pioneers went 2-0 this past weekend in games with similar scores for both games. They first faced Hays and won by 39 points with a score of 63-24. Then turned around and played North Star and won by 28 points with a score of 65-37.
Travis Baumann wrote, "In Hays, we shot 46% and held them to 16%! We had 15 assists on 27 made shots, which is 56% assists on made shots! Our defense dominated the game, generating 21 steals and causing 28 turnovers! We outrebounded Hays 44-19. Every varsity player got playing time! Yeadon led us with 24 points, while Sant and Galbavy had 11. Galbavy had 13 boards, followed by Yeadon with 8 and Baumann with 5. Baumann had 7 assists, and Yeadon had 3. Yeadon had 6 steals, followed by Sant and Baumann with 5 each!"
"Against North Star, the first quarter and the start of the second quarter was close, with North Star up 15-16, then the Lady Pioneers exploded with 16 straight points to go up 31-16 and never looked back. We shot 41% and had 21 assists on 27 made shots for a 78% assist-to-make ratio! Again, our defense brought the heat, forcing 36 turnovers and getting 25 steals while also getting 7 blocks! We were in scoring by Yeadon with 26, followed by Baumann with 12. Galbavy led the team again in rebounds with 9, followed by Yeadon with 6 and Baumann with 5. Baumann dished out 8 assists, followed by Galbavy with 4, with Sant and Wirral each getting 3. Galbavy led the team with 8 steals, followed by Baumann with 6 and Sant with 5!"
"All in all, it was a great couple of games by the Lady Pioneers. We finish our regular season schedule this weekend in Fort Benton on Friday and home against Box Elder on Saturday! It should be another great weekend of basketball before we head to tournaments!"
The Lady Thunderbirds struggled with the Lady Pioneers full-court press, while the Lady Pioneers got several steals to start an early lead with a score of 19-5 after the first quarter. The Lady Pioneers continued their hot streak and scored an additional 21 points in the 2nd quarter. At the same time, the Lady Thunderbirds unfortunately had a hard time scoring, only scoring 9 points in the 2nd quarter. The Lady Pioneers went into halftime up 26 points with a score of 40-14.
The Lady Pioneers scored a quick 5 points to the Lady Thunderbirds 3 points. Then both teams went on a dry spell, where no one scored for 4 mins of the game clock, but the Lady Pioneers scored another 6 points in the 3rd quarter, while the Lady Thunderbirds only scored 3 points in the 3rd quarter. The last stanza was a better quarter for the Lady Thunderbirds, but unfortunately, with a running clock, they didn't get an opportunity to close the gap and ended up losing by almost 40 points. The final score was 63-24 in favor of the Lady Pioneers.
Eva Yeadon had another great game, leading the Lady Pioneers in scoring, finishing with 24 points, and having 5 steals. Keira Galbavy and Jenny Sant also scored in double digits, scoring 11 points each. Keira also had 14 rebounds, and Eva had 11 rebounds. Jai Baumann had 7 assists and 5 steals.
The Lady Pioneers then turned around and played the Lady Knights. The game started slow, with the score being 1-1 for several minutes, but then both teams settled down, made some great passes, and scored buckets. The Lady Pioneers went into the 2nd quarter up by 5 points with a score of 15-10. The Lady Pioneers continued their aggressive attacks to the basket and outscored the Lady Knights in the 2nd quarter, scoring 18-11. The Lady Pioneers went into halftime up by 12 points with a score of 33-21.
The Lady Pioneers continued to play strong throughout the game, put pressure on the ball, and have a great defense. The Lady Knights kept clawing away at the score, but the Lady Pioneers just held strong and continued pushing the ball, outscoring the Lady Knights 2-16 in the last 2 quarters of the game. The Lady Pioneers won by 28 points with a score of 65-37.
The Lady Pioneers had scoring from 7 players; Eva Yeadon finished with 26 points (with 15 of those points coming in the 1st quarter). Jai Baumann finished with 12 points and 7 steals. Jenny Sant and Alex Worrall had 7 points, Keira Galbavy had 6 points and 6 steals, and Korbyn Jurenka had 5 points.
The Lady Pioneers have two more games before heading into Districts. They play Fort Benton in Fort Benton on Friday and at home against Box Elder on Saturday.
