The Complete Flip-Around of Big Sandy Girls Basketball

February 21, 2024

Big Sandy Lady Pioneers Basketball have struggled for the past 15 years. In the season of 2020-2021, our girls record was 0-16. The next season, 2021-2022 we won a few games with a record of 6-14. Then we made quite a jump, with a record of 12-9 in 2022-2023. This basketball season, we are hoping to cause a ruckus at the District and even at the Divisional tournament. Our record as of now is 18-4, with the W's continuing to increase.

The new coaching staff has helped the team tremendously as they have coached together for three years straight. For the 2021-2022 season, we got a new head coach, Travis Baumann, and an assistant coach, Ella Jurenka. Keeping this same coaching staff has brought continuity to this program. Since the new coaches, we have improved our record each year. As a junior, I am hoping our team will continue to get better. Our team isn't losing very many people next year; we just will lose one senior. Other than that, our team stays the same.

Tournaments are came in a quick hurry, and we are not only wanting to make it to Divisionals, but we also hope to make it to State. The last time that the girls made it to the Divisional Tournament was in 2009!

Making it to Divisionals wasn't something we hope to do; it was an expectation.

The Lady Pioneers four eight graders: Genavieve Nissen, Raea Pansch, Lyndee Worrall, and Korbyn Jurenka. Nineth graders Samantha Bjornestad and Elaina Weaver. Keira Galbavy and Brianna Terry are both in the 10 grade. Jenny Sant, Jaihven Baumann, Ni-Ve Washburn, Alex Worrall, Carmen Tan, and Eva Yeadon are all Juniors. The only senior on the team is Lainey Terry. The five starters for this year's girls team are Eva Yeadon, Jai Baumann, Keira Galbavy, Jenny Sant, and Lainey Terry. Districts for this year was February 14-17. We were hoping to cause some noise in the 9C and win Districts! We really appreciated the local people watching the games in Havre and cheer on our team! I have a good feeling that this group of girls is really going to shine, and we are capable of great things.
