Bear Paw Meanderings

April 26, 2017

Maybe it was T. S. Elliott or some other poet who said that April is the cruelest month of all. I agree!

When I look at the three months of spring, not counting June, but starting with March, April and May, March usually is as much winter as summer and we all have grown to expect that.

But when we finally get through March, and are basking in the early April sunshine, that sunshine can turn cloudy in a heartbeat and the next time you go out the back door, there is three inches of snow on the sidewalk. That is what I find so cruel about April. I think I have gone through the worst but low and behold, April can be just an extension of winter and March as much as it can contain some spring days. The one thing that can be said about both March and April is that they are as windy as any months of the year.

But then finally April is over, and I must say that this April seemed to just speed by, and we are all but into the Merry Month of May.

May! Now there is a month. Oh sure it can snow in May. Matter of fact some of my most memorable times in the beautiful Bear Paw Mountains were getting snow bound in some cabin or other when we had planned for a Memorial Day family picnic on the day of the snow. That just did not happen once.

But often enough those May showers are rain, not snow and they do bring the June flowers. Although here in Montana it can be said just as well that June showers bring July flowers.

Anyway May is one of my best months and I am glad to be celebrating it once again.

Hurrah for that Merry Month of May!
