From The Mayor's Desk

February 1, 2017

At the January 11 regular meeting of the Big Sandy City Council there were two visitors present. The Pledge was recited. There were no public comments and there was no sheriff’s report.

Mayor Stiles said that the new Big Sandy web page is about finished and should be up and running before very long. “The Mountaineer” will print how to access the page.

The new water line project is on hold right now because Rural Development has discovered some costs they were not anticipating. They are working now on how much each match is going to cost.

Bear Paw Development and the Department of Environmental Quality were discussing the four way stop on the south edge of Big Sandy. By the end of the summer, the Mayor reported, they should know the outcome of that project.

A new swimming pool was discussed for a time at the meeting.

A thousand dollars worth of electrical panels were purchased. Those panels will help get the electricity back up in the case of an outage.

The City is close to changing the way water is charged for on vacant properties. Soon the Council will be building a new ordinance to cover that problem.

Regarding the Source Water Project, a package was approved.

There were no committee reports.

The water shut off list was normal again. Mayor Stiles reported that the shut off list contains from eight to fifteen names per month of people who did not pay their water bill.

Claims were paid, journal vouchers were approved and the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be February 8, 2017.
