Barracudas to Swim in Class A at the State Meet

August 1, 2018

Big Sandy has the smallest school enrollment of the twenty-two towns that complete in the summer swimming federation. However, division determination for swimming is different than for school sports.

Unlike MHSA, which places teams in divisions based upon school enrollment, swimming classes are determined based upon team points scored at the divisional meet.

Big Sandy’s finish at the divisional meet places the team in the A division for state. The top five point scoring teams at the two divisional meets are placed in the Class AA division (Bitterroot, Lewistown, Scobey, Chinook and Sidney), with the next six point scoring teams placed in Class A (C-Falls, Big Sandy, Glendive, Conrad, Shelby and Glasgow). The remaining eleven teams are split into classes B and C.

The Barracudas scored 639 individual points, which placed them seventh overall in points scored at the divisional meets. Thirty-seven of the forty-two swimmers will be advancing to the state meet in Conrad on August 4th and 5th.
