Last days of the Soccer Season

Soccer played their last games of the year this last weekend in Geraldine. Soccer brings out each child's personalities especially when they are five years old. If they are prone to be a little reserved they'll most likely just stand in place, or notice a rock and sit down to look at it rather than paying any attention to the ball being dribbled past them. Some children are more aggressive and there they are, at the youngest of ages running up and down the field, where their position was to go up the field or not.

There are three different age groups playing soccer this year for a total of 51 children participating! Yes, 51! There are 20 children between the ages 5 and 6 year olds. Their coaches were Rachel Baumgarn, Brandy Terry, and Vanessa Janssen. Thirteen students in the 2nd- 3rd grade participants. Their coaches were Petra Yirsa and Leann Williams. Bryanna Goodman and Judy Yirsa were the coaches for the 4th-6th graders. There were 18 students participating at that level.

Soccer season was six weeks long. They played two games in Geraldine, two games in Fort Benton, and two games in Big Sandy. This last Saturday was the last home game.

Playing soccer has been great exercise for the student, when they learned to run. And they do run all over the field, especially the two older groups, which is inspirational. They play hard, hitting the ground, getting tripped up, taking head plants, and getting kicked in the shins. Luckily, they are required to wear shin guards. For many students, it is their first opportunity to learn teamwork. The greatest reason to play would be it allows students to develop their unique abilities.
