Big Sandy City Council Approve New Budget

Last Thursday I got the honor of sitting in on the monthly city council meeting. It was enjoyable to watch all the bright minds that lead this town come together on the important issues at hand. They tackled many leading problems in this community with intelligence and a positive attitude.

They began by discussing the budget for the upcoming year. The adopted budget for the fiscal 2020 revenues is currently one hundred, ninety-four thousand dollars. Along with that, the town of Big Sandy contact with the Unified Garbage Disposal has raised their rates from eighty-five to ninety dollars. To fulfill the contract agreement the council has agreed to pay ninety-five dollars per unit.

The official meeting began with a sheriff’s report. A complaint was made about a trailer parked in front of a shop in town, containing smelly, malodorous barrels. a city ordinance may be the solution to the problem.

Construction at the pool in town may commence in the fall. Some inlets may need to be redone and it is possible the pool deck may get torn up. Rest assured it will most likely be done by spring.

A new (or as the mayor put it: old, old, old) water project has been underway. An engineering company has made it their mission to clean up the water in Loma, Big sandy, Havre, and the surrounding areas. Along the road they have hit some blocks, but it looks as if they are beginning to make way with the project. Pray that this new roadblock doesn’t slow them down any.

Choteau County has taken on the project of cleaning up the four-way fuel building just north of town on Highway 87. This project tells us how much the county and the community care both for the environment.

In new business, a resolution was passed to cancel the upcoming general election. This was due to the fact that only one person filed for a re-election.

In other news, there was an incident where a skid steer hit an unmarked power inlet near the school cost the company and the city quite the sum of money. When all was said and done, everybody did their part in accepting responsibility; arrangements are underway to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

That was all they covered in the council meeting. I sure enjoyed sitting in on the conference and I hope to do it again next month. It was nice to see and meet everyone there. I would like to give a personal thanks to everybody who was there!
