It's always fun to watch little kids wrestle. The smallest children grab each other and kind of dance around. Sometimes they just run away from each other in circles. Other times, when they get taken down, they'll lie on their backs without giving any effort to getting up.

Respect is taught on the mat with each wrestler, shaking hands before and after each competition. After it is over, they are trained to go over to shake hands with the other's coach before returning

Havre, Fort Benton, and Chester brought little wrestlers down to Big Sandy. Almost everyone's child was able to wrestle three times. They were given center stage as there was only one mat, and every child was allowed to shine. There were some tears, but they quickly dried up.

It's impressive to see the development of skills in the older grade school students. After each match, the effort made during the three-time periods leaves every child exhausted.

They practice Monday through Friday at the Big Sandy Museum.

There were 17 opportunities to wrestle this year, with only ten left for the Little Pioneers. However, you only need to wrestle three times to earn a place at state.

This is not the annual Big Sandy Little Guy meet. They just thought they would have a mixer with our team and a few kids from out of town that wanted to come to wrestle with us. Big Sandy Little Guy meet is Feb. 28th at 5:30 Big Sandy High School Gym. Make sure you go and watch.
