The Big Sandy Mountaineer -

Dear Editor

August 5, 2020

Talk is always cheap, but it seems even cheaper when it comes from the lips of Senator Steve Daines. Daines claims to be an advocate for Montana producers so much that he sounds like a broken record, but when push comes to shove, is he really there for us?

The question is worth asking because last year Senator Daines had a prime opportunity to stand up for Montana’s farmers, but he failed. Senator Tester fought hard to change the WHIP+ (Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus) program so as to unlock $1.5 billion in disaster relief for Montana farmers who were suffering after a tough 2019 crop year, including those right here in Chouteau County.

The change was beneficial for Montana, yet Senator Daines inexplicably voted against it. In other words, his talking points failed to translate to actual support for our producers.

Governor Steve Bullock’s words actually mean something. Senator Daines’ are clearly worthless. Stand up for Montana’s producers by voting for Governor Bullock this November.

Robert Boettcher, Big Sandy
