Republicans get together in Loma

October 14, 2020

This time of year, Loma is beautiful to visit. The Loma valley is full of beautiful fall foliage. This year the Republican party held a supper at the Loma Community Hall. Besides the candidates speaking at the event, it was made more special as Maria Bouchard, owner of Ma's Loma Café, was celebrating that she was a new citizen of the United States and was going to be voting for the first time. Senator Daines brought her a flag that had been flown over the capital, and Representative presented her a gift as well. The importance of the event was not lost on those in attendance.

Families sat at red, white, and blue tables with some children singing the National anthem to start the evening. Matt Rosendale said the rural vote was critical, with only a two to three-point difference between him and Kathleen Williams. He went on to give a political speech about what he has done and what his platform is.

Senator Daines mentioned his family had been here for many years. Daines said, "Montana picked me." He was pleased that the Secretary of Energy came to Montana and mentioned he had met with the new Supreme Court Candidate, Amy Coney Barrett, before returning to Montana. He wore a mask to the event, saying, "It's not about me." He wanted to be in Washington to vote. He believes Chouteau County can make the difference when it comes to voting. Montana has great rural counties, mentioning Proverbs 31:31, "Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

Greg Gianforte mentioned as governor, his priorities for Covid-19 was to protect the teachers, the kids, and the elderly. He would move towards voluntary restriction and personal responsibility.

And whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, voting is three weeks away. The deadline to register to vote is October 26th. You can register to vote by calling the Clerk and Recorder in Fort Benton at 406-622-5024.

If you would like to know your vote was counted you can download an application from the Montana Secretary of State called My Voter Page.
