I found myself surrounded by art in the high school art class. Monika Winderl, a high school art teacher, is thrilled to be telling me about the First Annual Art Week coming April 29- 30 down at the Big Sandy city hall. All events start at 7:00. She has artwork from all her students starting before covid through this year-over 300 pieces of art. Photographs, acrylics, pencil drawings, wood burning, and various venues will be shown.
Monica wants to showcase the talent we have in this town. It will be a nice evening, not formal, but nice.
The first night of the opening, Monday will be to show off the art. On the second night of the show, Big Sandy High school students will be playing their musical instruments by playing their pieces from the district musical festival. Bond is excited that his students will get to play all their music pieces for a hometown show.
The Bakery will have desserts to show off her culinary art.
But volunteers are needed. It is massive work to showcase three hundred plus pieces.
She also needs funding to support the week. Monica has been looking at different options for backdrops to hang the art. The best backdrops that would work and stay in good for further art shows would cost a total of $3,000. She will work with the money she receives and make it nice for the kids. "It's all for the kids. It's going to be a phenomenal show."
The Bakery and the Grocery Store will have a donation jar. You can also contact Monica at the Big Sandy High School.
