The Big Sandy Mountaineer -

The Big Sandy Saddle Club kicked off their first O-Mok-See of the year on Wednesday night. Turned out to be a beautiful evening after some very much needed rain. We opened up with the entrance of our beautiful American Flag followed by all of the participants and the omoksee prayer.

Dear Lord, We pause, mindful of the many blessings you have lain along our path. We don't ask for special favors, nor do we ask that the blessings granted our opponents be diminished. Instead, we thank you for allowing us to experience friendship in one of its truest forms. To be able to gather with friends and loved ones, to pay tribute to the great sport of O-Mok-See. We ask that you guide us up the greatest lane of all, and that you as our final judge, will allow us to ride once more, where the sun never sets and where happiness rides beside us and never behind. For this dear Lord, we thank you.

The kids raced against each other in three different events; the three-pole weave, arena race, and speed barrels. The O-Mok-See is an atmosphere that brings out the whole family. You witness siblings, husbands and wives, and friends racing each other to be the first across the finish line but then high five and congratulate each other on an awesome run regardless of who won and how the race actually went. The comradery for each other is truly genuine. No matter the age or experience, they cheered each other on offering words of encouragement and support. Many laughs were had as parents raced down the line with the little lead liners out to get the experience and thrill of riding on their trusty steeds. Parents were huffing and puffing as they raced along side their little ones only to see the beautiful smile on kids faces that make it all worthwhile

The Big Sandy Saddle Club O-Mok-See season is just getting started. We invite everyone to stop on out. Enjoy a good burger or hot dog at the concession stand and be prepared for good laughs and an overload of entertainment from everyone participating.
