Pioneers Spoil Refiners Homecoming 77-6

77-6 was the final score on Saturday night in Sunburst. The Pioneers improved their record to 3-0 on the season in impressive fashion. Senior Kody Strutz took the opening kickoff 57 yards for a Pioneer touchdown. The first of ten touchdowns scored in the contest by the Big Sandy Football Team. Key blocks and hard running by Strutz propelled him into the endzone. After forcing a quick punt, the Pioneers would score their second touchdown in under a minute with a 10 yard run from Quarterback Braydon Cline. Not even two minutes later a Kody Strutz pass would find Rusty Gasvoda who would power through a defender before diving in for the score. Just 3 minutes into the opening quarter Big Sandy was up 22-0.

A Braydon Cline tackle would result in a two point safety and good field position for the Pioneers. Strutz would cash in on the opportunity with a crafty 26 yard touchdown run. Just minutes later he'd be back in the endzone after receiving a pass from Braydon Cline for a 13 yard score. Rusty Gasvoda would cap off a 48 point first quarter with a two yard rushing touchdown.

Lane Demontiney and Cooper Taylor would get in on the scoring in the second quarter. Demontiney with a 14 yard rush and Taylor with a 58 yard punt return. The Pioneers led 64-0 at halftime.

Junior fullback Sam Cox pounded his way into the endzone midway through the third quarter to make the score 70-0. The final Big Sandy score came on a Jake Darlington 3 yard pass to Lane Demontiney making the score 77-0. Many of the younger players on the Pioneer side made the most out of their opportunities to play. Sophomores Ryder Galbavy, Darrell Sunchild, and Severin Heimbigner terrorized the Refiner offense from their position on the defensive line. Ryder Galbavy's key blocks would help spring Cooper Taylor on his impressive punt return. Freshman Ty Terry continued to bring quality to the Pioneer kicking game. He would cash in on the majority of his extra point opportunities during the contest.

The Pioneer Junior High Team also improved their record to 3-0 with a 44-18 victory. Seventh grade quarterback Tommy Sant did a good job spreading the ball around to his teammates. Karter Jurenka Scored multiple touchdowns from his position at fullback. Tommy Sant threw a nice pass to center Aiden Morsette for an important second quarter touchdown. Quinn Rodewald also got in on the fun with an entertaining kick return for a touchdown. He also had a key interception late in the second quarter.

The Big Sandy Pioneers will host conference rival Power-Dutton-Brady this Friday at 7PM.
