Medical Center Board Still Looking for a Permanent CEO

September 21, 2022

Ron Wiens is still the acting CEO; however, the Medical Center is still looking for a permanent CEO. Anyone interested in the position should contact the Medical Center to require how to apply.

I attended the monthly board meeting of the Board of Directors for BSMC. There were 29 people in attendance, all associated with the medical center except myself. I want to express that this will not be meeting minutes, primarily because by the time it gets to print, many agenda items will have changed.

Sarah Schlepp reported that currently, the Medical Center has strong financials! She noted the August and Year To Date 2022 financial statements. The board also discussed how to invest some monies to make more dollars than a savings account would make.

Ron Wien reported no new COVID outbreaks after the six were discovered. At the time of the meeting, they were still in lockdown; however, I believe, they were just waiting for one more negative test result before opening again. He said the staff acted very quickly, and the responses were done well. Interestingly, none of the four residents with COVID felt sick, and they only discovered they had COVID because they tested for it. Two staff also tested positive. During the discussion, it was noted that not everyone comes to the clinic anymore to be tested. Most take-home tests either say something on Facebook or don’t tell anyone they tested positive.

Ron also mentioned Dusty Allderdice for tracking coding/documentation accuracy issues. She is the reason the center is getting paid more quickly.

Dave Korkowski, Lab Manager, has also updated and ensured every eyewash station is where it needs to be and is working appropriately.

There are two construction projects scheduled for this late fall. They have purchased a new generator, and the construction of a new generator pad is required. Also, updating the kitchen and building an addition to house the new freezer/cooler is scheduled for this fall.

The board and staff took a tour of the building to discuss what might be options for next year to ensure the hospital/clinic/resident areas are adequately maintained.
