The Big Sandy musical students attending State Musical Festival did Big Sandy Proud! Those receiving a Superior #1 were: Sandy Sweethearts, Jaycee Worall for both vocal and piano solos, Jamie Jones’s Flute Solo, and Hunter Moore’s Trumpet solo. Those receiving Excellent scores #2 Sandy Select, Lance Rutledge/Angie Sant Duet, Darrell Sunchild and Hunter Moore’s instrument duet and Darrell Sunchild/s Baritone Solo.

This week the Special Olympic Flame was brought to Big Sandy. Chase Gasvoda and Sonny Phillips were picked to carry the flame through Big Sandy. What was way cool was the whole school walked with them, supporting them and cheering. Chase and Sonny gave inspirational speeches, which brought me so much joy. Go to the Big Sandy School FaceBook sight to listen to them speak to their peers!

At the special School Board of Trustees, a discussion centered around the Classified Salary Request of 3% would give a 30-cent raise. Superintendent Dan Schrock commented that our school has no small jobs! There was a motion, a second, and a discussion to provide a 2.5 % increase, a 25 cents raise.

There was further discussion about the budget and increasing funds for Health Insurance.

Also, discussing clearing up the language in the Procedure and Policy, Dan told the board he would better understand the language and bring it to the next board meeting.

Transportation will continue to be an issue for the next few months. In this week’s paper and for the following three weeks, there is a notification about seeking a request for bid proposals for transportation. The board will be reviewing bids at the upcoming trustee’s meetings. If no bids are received at the school, the school will need to hire two bus drivers. There is a concern because, in the past, few have come forward to be bus drivers for the school. Be watching for this issue to be discussed.

There was also an Elementary Interview Committee consisting of Administrators Dan Schrock, Superintendent and Heather Wolrey, Principal, Board Trustees Glen Terry, Anna Bold, and Elementary teacher Sheri Moore. They recommend two to be hired. The Elementary Title One/ Library will be Mrs. Stephanie Overbay. The school also hired a 2nd-grade teacher for next year. Bonnie Bauer has nine years of teaching experience and comes with glowing recommendations.
