At the last board meeting, Big Sandy Superintendent reported that he is currently advertising on the OPIs, Handshake, MREA, and Rural Educator websites. Big Sandy is looking for the following teachers: Secondary Special Education, K-12 Physical Education, 5th grade, and 1st grade. Dan Schrock said he recently received two interests in Secondary Special Education. One of which is already in a special education program of study. I also received a person interested in the 1st or 5th-grade opening.
The gym floor will be fixed this summer.
The school is currently looking at maintenance areas and requests from staff. The administration will review them and make decisions based on the budget available.
The policy work of the school is being updated electronically. The electronic version will be provided to the District.
Dan Schrock said, “We are heading for the home stretch to what has been a very positive and successful year. We have much to be proud of and to celebrate as staff and as a community with respect to the 18 Pioneers going forward into the world. While we will miss them, we are proud of this milestone in their lives and will celebrate with them.”
Heather Wolery, the Principal, reported to the board that Award night for academic and sports awards will occur on the 23rd. The Elementary Extravaganza is May 24th from 12:30-2:00. Also Retirement Party between 4:00-5:30 at the Elementary Lunchroom is in honor of Cinda Pearson, Alma Terry, and Cheryl Ostrom. Semester tests at the high school will occur on May 24th and 25th. On the 25th at the FE Miley, the elementary school children will have a Field Day in the morning. That same day the Kindergarten Graduation will be at 9:00 in the Auditorium.
Melanie Schwarzbach made her recommendations to the board for coaching. After discussion, the coaches next year in Volleyball are Brittany McKenny, head Coach, and Morgan Simpson’s assistant. In Football, the head coach will be Larry Jappe, Tucker Taylor’s assistant coach, and Ryne LaBuda’s volunteer coach. In wrestling, Tucker Taylor requested that he would like to step down from the head coach position and assume a volunteer position. He recommends Kyle Rodewald as the head wrestling coach. Tucker will still be the junior high wrestling coach. Basketball Coaches will also be the same as last year: Travis Baumann, head girls coach, and Ella Jurenka, assistant. Rhett Simonton and Ryne LaBuda will be the boys’ basketball coaches next year.
Melanie has met with Dustin from Dusty’s Sprinklers to review the condition of the football field and his recommendations for improving the field. Disscussion was held.
