One of the things I love most about living in Big Sandy is that it is a community-focused town. I love that in this town, I feel welcomed and a part of the community. I could be walking downtown, and people always wave or say hi to me. As human beings, we are meant to be there for one another; communities are built on friendships and mutual respect. Kindness always goes a long way in a person’s day - you never know what someone is going through!
Visiting the Big Sandy Library is a great way to connect with the community. The Big Sandy Library offers a wide variety of books to read, comfortable chairs to relax in, and a great place to socialize. There are always fun activities for the kids to participate in, such as story time and arts and crafts. Another important factor in making the library a wonderful place is the positive vibes the librarians bring to the community. The library is meant to be a safe place for people of all ages, and Big Sandy Library succeeds in that! If you’re looking for how to contribute to the community, join the library!
Another favorite thing about Big Sandy is that I go disc golfing, or Folf for short. There is a beautiful field course by the Elementary School that I often do with family and friends. It’s a great way to spend time outdoors, get some exercise, and socialize with others. Folding is a lot like golf, except that you are using a disc instead of a club and ball. The point of the game is to get the disc in the basket in the fewest amount of throws. It is a fun, if often challenging, sport that requires practice, patience, luck, and skill. It is a sport that anybody can do; it just needs a positive, can-do attitude, and don’t give up! The more you do it, the better you get! Just like in any sport, you have to practice to get better at it! Folding is a great way to bring the community into our lives!
