What is FFA

FFA stands for Future Farmers of America and is located in all 50 states. I interviewed the FFA teacher, Mr. Taylor, and asked him how he would describe FFA. He said “FFA is an intracurricular student lead organization for students enrolled in junior high and high school agriculture education classes.

FFA is not just for farm kids. It focuses on helping students develop as leaders and gain knowledge and skills through hands-on experience competing in a variety of contests linked to all kinds of careers in agriculture. Contests like food science, floral design, Ag sales, and Veterinary science are some examples of events students compete in that are not your traditional agriculture careers.” The second question I asked him was, what do you like about FFA. He said, “I like that kids are learning about and developing skills that are linked directly to careers. I like the way that it helps kids develop as leaders with a strong emphasis on serving your community, learning to organize and plan events, learning to lead discussions, present reports, run meetings and speak publicly and professionally. I like that over the years FFA kids build relationships and a network with all kinds of like minded students all over the state and those relationships continue on into college and into business and careers after graduation. I like the relationships I am able to develop with my students who get involved and participate in FFA.” The third question I asked him was, why did you choose to do FFA. He said, “I chose to become an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor because I wanted to do something more than just earn a living. I wanted to invest in others and try to make a difference in their lives and in my community. Growing up my father, grandfathers and all my neighbors were farmers. I was surrounded by men who loved to grow stuff, and who were constantly fixing and building stuff. As a young person I wanted to be like them. I think that knowing how to grow things, fix things and build things is very important and something that is being lost in our society. I want to teach kids those skills and help them develop a passion and interest in growing stuff, fixing stuff and building stuff. There are tons of career opportunities for kids that like to grow stuff, know how to fix and build stuff and I want to help kids discover those talents and prepare them for those careers.” FFA is a great source of learning for kids that are thinking about being future farmers of America .FFA is something that you do for a class in school are after you are done with school. It also teach is you some life skill that you can do in the future so whenever you are on your own and start a new farm are even take over a farm you can use the thing that you like know so like yeah . On top of all that stuff it teaches you leadership and stand up for yourself.
